Letterman Returns to Ball State
David Letterman,
the most famous alum to come out of Ball State University returned Monday night
in Emems Auditorium.
Letterman
brought two very well known filmmakers with him Spike Jonze and Bennett Miller.
Miller is known for filming Money Ball and Jonze known for a lot of movies
especially Jack Ass.
Letterman opened
the night with his own stand up and also he went on to announce that he would
be donating all of his memorabilia from the Tonight Show.
“I think it is
really cool that is donating all of that to Ball State, it will be a good
addition to the University,” Andrea Hollin a nutrition and dietetics student
said.
During the
conversation with Jonze and Bennett they gave some good advice and good words
for people who might be a T-comm major.
“Editing is
filmmaking,” Jones said. “The goal of filmmaking is to evoke a certain feeling
you feel to others,” Bennett went on to say.
They also went
into talking about the problem of woman and people of color in the filmmaking
business industry.
Letterman
stated, “we need a change and have more women in filmmaking.” Miller went on to
agree, “It’s a hot issue with any angles of concern.”
During the
conversation we got to relive Letterman’s one and only movie scene that he ever
did. Bennett and Jonze recreated it with a couple of drama students.
They both were
asked about their future plans with movie making. Bennett went onto say “I’m
going to solve all of the worlds problems with a documentary.”
